Hoods, Stoles and Sash

UCOL Sash

• UCOL Sash are worn by recipients of UCOL diplomas.
• They are like a long scarf and hang down the front over the gown.
• UCOL Sash are brown with a green embroidered pattern. They are made of satin material
• One-size fits all.

UCOL Stoles

• UCOL Stoles are worn by recipients of UCOL Graduate Certificate & Diplomas.
• They are like a long scarf and hang down the front over the gown.
• UCOL Stoles are black with a coloured outer margin.
• The colour of the margin is dependent on your faculty.
• The stoles are trimmed with  coloured satin. The colour of the satin depends on the qualification e.g. the stole for the Graduate Diploma in Information and Communication Technology is trimmed with Ruby Burgundy coloured satin.
• UCOL Stoles are all the same length, one size fits all.
• Every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.

Massey University Stoles

• Stoles are worn by recipients of diplomas.
• They are like a long scarf and hang down the front over the gown.
• Massey University Stoles are black with a pale blue inner margin and the Massey University crest embroidered  near the hem on one side.
• No distinction is made between different classes of diplomas e.g. Undergraduate diplomas vs. Graduate diplomas.
• Stoles are sized according to your full height.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.

Degree Hoods

Master Degree Hood

Master Hoods are worn by recipients of Master degrees. They are the shape of a Cambridge BA hood.

• Masters hoods do not have any trim inside the mouth of the hood. This indicates the status of the degree as the Bachelors have a fur trim and the Bachelor Honours hoods have a white ribbon trim.
• The lining colour indicates the area of study

PhD Hood/Stole Facings

• These are the hood and front facings that turn a masters gown into one worn by a PhD recipient.
• The are attached to the master gown with Velcro.
• Hood/Stole Facings are made of satin, Post office red (Scarlet) and a navy known as University Blue, distinctive of  Massey University.
• PhD stole facings are sized according to your full height in line with your gown
